ALIEN BLASTER CONCEPT ART AND PROP DESIGN

Above is a close up of the finished blaster. Below concept art showing our process of building props, in this case we started with a basic plastic toy gun and modified it to look real on screen. We added real leather grips, brass and stainless steel bolts, sheet metal and a myriad of other items, and then topped it all off with paint and weathering and it looks like the real deal on screen.

Here are some very cool concept illustrations and the prop design of the alien blaster seen in the QE teaser for the upcoming Quantum Enigma comic book release. Linder started off with some basic outline illustrations based on a movie weapon used in G. I. Joe and later released as a toy blaster from Hasbro. Further down you can this page, we have included a photo of it of the basic toy before the heavy modifications.

The shear amount of work required to create something like this is amazing but we are firm believers in practical effects and real props. There are several designs here that we would love to see come to life.

These all look pretty cool, but in the end I guess you can only pick one. Below is the finished product, we are waiting for additional photos of the detail work and build.

There are all sorts of little greeblies added to this, including brass and aluminum parts, it looks like leather handles and heat/ battle damaged paint job with a whole lot of weathering.

Here is another image below that we use on the site.

Here is the neon plastic toy gun by Hasbro that was used as the base unit.

Screen matched image of the gun in holster from the QE teaser.

We do storyboards

Story boards can make or break a shoot. We've seen it so many times where a team has a difficult time expressing the action translated from a script to the rest of the crew to get the shots they need. We have done animation and live action storyboards for many years.

Below are some examples of different storyboard styles that we have used for a range of projects. Near the bottom we have included some character design and random sketches for various projects. For more info contact. BlkFlyProd@gmail.com

Character Design

I have worked for a number of animation studios, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Men in Black, Godzilla, and more. Animation is quite different then live action film or TV. I didn't design any of these characters from scratch, I had to adapt my drawing style to their model sheets and then draw them as they were. Below you'll see some of my practice runs at these characters. Teams of people made these characters what they were. They were refined and edited down to their most basic, repeatable designs and lines.

Each drawing of and existing character is a challenge. I have to adapt what I know to suit the director's needs and make the character look like it is meant to. The above and below illustrations are older drawings of getting familiar with each of the characters nuances.
